With its customisable features and user-friendly interface, TurboCASH offers a cost-effective solution for comprehensive financial management.
TurboCASH has a long and rich history as one of the pioneers in open-source accounting software. It was developed by Philip Copeman in South Africa in 1985, originally as a DOS-based program. The software was created to provide small to medium-sized businesses with a robust, cost-effective alternative to expensive proprietary accounting systems.
Over the years, TurboCASH has evolved significantly:
1985: The initial version of TurboCASH was launched, focusing on basic accounting functionalities suitable for small businesses.
1999: TurboCASH was released as open-source software, allowing users to freely download, modify, and distribute the software. This move significantly expanded its user base globally.
2003: The software transitioned from DOS to Windows, offering a more modern and user-friendly interface. This update also introduced new features, including multi-company support and VAT management, making it more appealing to a broader range of businesses.
2007: TurboCASH 4 was launched, featuring an improved interface, enhanced reporting capabilities, and better integration with other software applications. This version solidified TurboCASH’s reputation as a reliable and flexible accounting solution.
2010s: TurboCASH continued to expand its features, adding support for multi-currency transactions, advanced budgeting, and cloud-based functionalities. The community around TurboCASH also grew, contributing to the software’s development and localisation for different regions.
2020s: TurboCASH remains one of the most popular open-source accounting solutions, with a global user base. The software continues to be updated regularly, with a focus on enhancing usability, expanding features, and maintaining its open-source ethos.
Throughout its history, TurboCASH has remained true to its mission: to provide businesses with a powerful, flexible, and affordable accounting tool. Today, it is used by thousands of businesses around the world, demonstrating the enduring value of open-source software in the business environment.
